My great grandmother Elizabeth (Jane) Moir Laird born 29 Jul, 1861, was born in Alloa to Thomas Black Laird and Jane Moir. Elizabeth married James Rhind Taylor in June of 1878 either the 20th or the 28th. They had 7 known children. I am looking for descendants of this family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take care,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

Chasing them through the censuses of 1881 to 1901 shows 8 children. In order: Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth, James, William, Robert, Janet and Martin. 1881 also gives a great grandmother to the children. They seem to have been in Falkirk for each of the censuses. As child #8 was young in 1901, there could have been more.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hmm, know of 7 children and my mother did mention a Tommy, but we thought he was a cousin to her not an uncle. And I do not find a Tommy listed in the 1901 Scottish Census that I have. I will try to find these other census, thank you for the info.

Take care,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

Thomas was born in 1879 and registered as Thomas Laird Muirhead (father: Thomas Rhind Muirhead). An amendment was made a few weeks later changing father's and son's surname to Taylor. See the birth certificate and associated RCE (entry in the Register of Corrected Entries) for the full details. Thomas is there in 1881 and 1891, but seems to have left home by 1901. He is in Falkirk at the time of death, aged over 70.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew,

Well, now I'm totally confused. But I'll keep plugging along. I thank you for the information, I just now have to process it. May I ask where you found these census? I am looking on ancestry.com and not finding what you're showing me.

Thanks again,

Stephanie
