Hi John
Indexes to civil births/marriages 1855 to 1875 Scotland are on the IGI, so you may be able to find the births there. After that time BDM information is via ScotlandsPeople (pay to view)
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
Do you have a maiden name for Margaret? Did they marry in Scotland?
Hay is listed as
Birth: 02 SEP 1865 Nigg, Kincardine, Scotland
Father: GEORGE KING Mother: JANET ANDERSON on the IGI
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... _form=true
I had a quick look on SP & found
Hay King married Margaret Forbes Nigg Kincardine 1889 so that seems a likely match.
There is a Margaret forbes on the IGI
Birth: 07 MAY 1869 Wick, Caithness, Scotland
Father: JAMES FORBES Mother: CHRISTINA BAIN
The IGI, ScotlandsPeople and Census data (also available at SP) should help find siblings and earlier generations. If Annie was born in Scotland her birth record will be on SP.

Hello John,
Welcome to Talking Scot!![[talkingscot] [talkingscot]](./images/smilies/talkingscot.png)
From the IGI:
George King married Janet Anderson on 8 Mar 1861 in Nigg, Kincardine
Just in time for the 1861 census
Here they are:
1861
Torry Village, Nigg, Kincardineshire
George King, 23, Head, born Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Ploughman
Janet King, 21, Wife, born Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire
Three children are given for this couple on the IGI: (I'll repeat Hay's birth just for completeness)
Ann King
Birth: 12 May 1861 Nigg, Kincardineshire
William Anderson King
Birth: 18 Mar 1863 Nigg, Kincardineshire
Hay King
Birth: 02 Sep 1865 Nigg, Kincardineshire
I wondered whether Janet might have died soon after the birth of Hay, but on Scotland's People there is a Janet King, other surname Anderson, who died in 1900 in Nigg, Kincardine. I'm sure it would be worthwhile to have a look at that death certificate!
In that case, I think the 1871 record that Trish found is correct for Janet, Ann and Hay.
Son William is with his aunt and uncle in Aberdeen (Note: Mary Anderson married George Hendery in Nigg on 4 Dec 1857 according to the IGI.):
1871
22 Hutcheon St, Aberdeen St Nicholas
George Hendry, 34, Head, born Old Meldrum, Aberdeenshire, Mill Labourer
Mary A Hendry, 34, Wife, born Aberdeen
William King, 8, Nephew, born Torry, Kincardineshire, Scholar
There is a death on Scotland's People for a George King born 1837. The death is registered in Nigg, in 1865. So it looks as if Hay's father may have died the year he was born
Regards and welcome again,
Sarah

Hello again,
I have been trying to go backwards with Hay's father George. This looks like him in 1851:
1851
Dudwick, Ellon, Aberdeenshire
Ann King, 32, head, born Old Deer, Aberdeenshire, School Mistress
George McCrie King, 13, Son, born Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scholar
Hmmmm. The only one that looks similar in 1841 is this family, given by Ancestry.com as:
1841
Poackhill, Ellon, Aberdeenshire
May Merry, 34, Male, born Aberdeenshire, Ag Lab
Ann Merry, 29, born Aberdeenshire
Mary Merry, 8, born Aberdeenshire
John Merry, 7, born Aberdeenshire
Geo McRie Merry, 3, born Aberdeenshire
However, never fear... a trip to FreeCEN tells us that the head of family is actually Hay King-- a very plausible father for George! Don't ask me where ancestry got the other surname
Not to mention May and Mary instead of the two Hays
Piece: SCT1841/192 Place: Ellon -Aberdeenshire Enumeration District: 8
Civil Parish: Ellon Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 8 Page: 7
Address: Backhill
KING Hay M 34 Ag Lab Aberdeenshire
KING Ann F 29 Aberdeenshire
KING Hay M 8 Aberdeenshire
KING John M 7 Aberdeenshire
KING Geo Mcrie M 3 Aberdeenshire
Hay King married Ann Cock on 21 Jun 1832 in Old Deer, Aberdeenshire
This couple has only two children on the IGI:
Hay King, Christened 22 Jul 1832 in Old Deer, Aberdeenshire
John King, Christened 1 Mar 1834 in Old Deer, Aberdeenshire
George doesn't show up
That middle name may be telling us something, but I can't find out what... No obvious birth under George McRie, for example, in case Hay & Ann adopted him. Oh well.
Ann Cock was christened 19 Jun 1811 in Old Deer, Aberdeen
Father: John Cock
Mother: Ann Dalgarno
Other children of this couple were:
Barbara Cock
Christening: 21 Sep 1806 Old Deer, Aberdeen
John Cock
Christening: 10 Jul 1808 Old Deer, Aberdeen
Margaret Cock
Christening: 6 May 1810 Old Deer, Aberdeen
George Cock
Christening: 30 Mar 1813 Old Deer, Aberdeen
Have fun trying to put all this together

Going off on a tangent now...
I promise, I'll stop soon
This appears to be your great grandfather's uncle Hay King, born 1832, son of Hay & Ann. He claims to have come to Canada in 1854.
1901
Pickering, Ontario West, Ontario, Canada
King, Hay, head, single, born 22 Jul 1832 in Scotland, age 68, came to Canada in 1854, Day Labourer
In 1911 he is transcribed as "Day" King, living in Pickering South, Ontario
He died 11 May 1915 in Whittry, Ontario. His father's name is given as Hay King, mother's name unknown. Looks like he remained single, so no more family to track in that direction...
All the best,
Sarah

Nice find, Alan! I blanked out on the 1881
Good there are people on the other side of the world to pick up the trail
With that hint, have a look at this website of archives for Pickering:
http://www.pada.ca/
In the cemetery section you find:
St. John's Cemetery
Side 1 - Ann wife of Hay King died Jan. 7, 1900 in her 89 year Native of Parish Ellon Aberdeenshire Scotland
Side 2 - She was a tender mother here And in her life the Lord did fear We trust our loss shall be her gain And that with Christ she's gone to reign.
Regards,
Sarah
