Hi everyone and merry christmas,
Iam hoping that someone may be able to help me please.
I have traced my ancestry back to an Andrew Ross b abt 1672 in Caputh who married Margaret/Margrat Ambrose/Ambros b abt 1676 in Caputh.
They were married 1n 1691 in Caputh.
I can't find any records of their deaths or their parents names on Scotlands people or any other sites but i have found quite a few Ambrose born in Caputh and a James Ross m Elspat Gilgour and a katrine Ross.
Their parents were thomas Ross who married kathrine Mertine in Perth.
I am trying to find a link as they are the only other Ross i can find in and around the Caputh area.
many thanks
steve

Hello Steve, and welcome to Talking Scot! ![[talkingscot] [talkingscot]](./images/smilies/talkingscot.png)
Congratulations on getting so far back with your research! You may have gone just about as far as you can with this family.... I see on the Genuki site that Caputh has existing birth records from 1670, marriage records from 1671 and death records only from 1722, with a few gaps here and there:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/PER/Caputh/index.html
So you won't find death records that far back even if you order the films.
The kirk session records that exist are only from 1869-1886... so that's no help
If you search for Caputh in the public catalogue of the National Archives of Scotland, there are a number of old documents that exist, but none that bring up your surnames of interest in the index. Doesn't mean they're not there, though! If you are making a trip to Edinburgh, brush up your Old Scottish handwriting and have a look...

Perhaps someone will come along later with some more useful information, but at the moment, that's all I can come up with...
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Steve
..and welcome to Talking Scot.
Not sure if you have explored the possibilities of monumental inscriptions? That is always another area to check - there may be none for the people you are researching but if they do exist they can often help a little.
Check out our links and the Scottish Genealogy site to find out what exists for the area.

Many Thanks
Many thanks to both of you for that,
I should be moving up to Scotland after the new year so i will take the advice and brush up on my scottish handwriting skills
I have been contacted by a chap from the perthshire history association and he has done some extensive research on families in perthshire including the Rosses, so here is hoping and in the meantime ill try to research my other lines.
Hope you both had a merry christmas and wishing you a happy new year
thanks
steve
