Help please Graham family

Post by KITTYKITTY » Wed Jan 23, 2008 10:45 pm

Hi

I am very new to this, but have fallen at the first hurdle. I am trying to trace J______ A___ G____, the only info I have was that he lived in Inverness-shire, was in the Cameron Highlanders in approx 1958 and would have born around 1934. I cannot seem to get any info from any of the sites as all the dates are too far back. I am thinking my search on the net is not going to work and a visit may be necessary....living in the south..thats not easy!!! Any help on where I can start, i would be really grateful.
Thank you :D

<name edited as is after our guidleine dates. http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6601

Hi KittyKitty
and welcome to Talking Scot. :D

The website you need to visit is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk where the births now go up to last year. You can register for free and search for free, but to see the results of a search you will need to pay - it is a pay-per-view site. The new indexes will let you see the year of birth but you will need to send for a copy of the birth to take you to the next step in your research.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi
Since my last post, I have got much further, i have found that he was not born in Scotland but in Dorset...hows that for research, I have much more information now, but am stuck on marriages in 1958 in scotland, everything seems to point to not being on line. I have no problem in paying for the pay per view. Is there anything on line I can refer to, or am I destined to travel 500 miles!!!!!...your advice would be helpful :)

Hi KittyKitty,

Scottish marriages online are subject to 75 years closure by legislation, so the only places you can see more recent ones are New Register House, Edinburgh and Park Circus, Glasgow.

All the best,

If you know the registartion district you could go to the Reg Office there & request a copy of the mariage certificate. However I think you have to be related??? to be able to obtain a copy-I may be wrong on that one.
If you have the details prob easier or cheaper to obtain direct from GROS.
