Post by Moira » Sat Jan 26, 2008 2:21 am

Hi, new to this! Looking for info on George P Wiseman,b.1855 Sunderland. Married Mary Howley Glasgow 1899. Son Charles Edward b.1900. No trace after 1901 Census. Older son John R Wiseman lived in Glasgow as did son George P. Wiseman who married Mary V Brown in 1906. [scotland-flag]
Fingers crossed!

Hello Moira,

A warm welcome to Talking Scot [talkingscot]

Finding their deaths would get you further in your search. Did you take a look on SP to see if your Wiseman family died in Scotland? http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ It might open up all kinds of possibilities for you :)

Regards,
Anne H

Hi Anne, thanks for the reply but I have tried SP and other sites for deaths and begin to wonder if George, Mary and Charles emigrated in the early years of the 20th century. In 1901 he had two of his English-born children Tommy and Florrie with him in Glasgow and Florrie married a chap called Charlie Logie, ending up in Edinburgh. I did have some contact with Florrie's daughter Dorothy <surname edited as may still be living. LesleyB> and her own daughter Anne but it's at least 25 years ago.
Ooh, I do like a mystery, don't you??

Hi Moira,

I take it you probably checked the various immigration records! I did have a quick look on Ancestry for George P but didn't come across anyone so far that might be him. :(

Don't give up - you have a wee mystery for now, but keep looking....I had looked all over for my great grandfather for years with no luck and finally found him about a month ago in California - even though I'd looked on various sights in the past :)

If I come across anything on your family, I'll let you know!

Regards,
Anne H

Hi Moira

Hmmm...well perhaps you didn't search for a death for Mary yet. On www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk Using maiden and married surnames and open to all parishes and all years post 1901 there is only one search result!!! I believe it is her.

Best wishes
Jean

Hello JustJean! You were right! I have found her. I can't believe my Gt Grandfather was widowed twice before he was 52. I have even more of a feeling he emigrated now. Plodding on, then!
