My Dad had an Auntie Bunty - and it is only since I started doing this research that I discovered that her name was Mary - just what the connection is I don't know !

I used to work with a 'Bunty' and in her case it was short for Elizabeth. Not sure if this would apply every time though.

So were they short & plump?It seems to be more a description of their body type rather than a derivation of a name.
I was an avid reader of the "Bunty" in my childhood.

The only 'Bunty' I knew was actually Bernadette!

I liked her full name, but wasn't allowed to use it, because she didn't. So 'Bunty' she was!

Hi All,
My cousin Jimmy Bruce married a Bunty, this was short for Elizabeth in her case but she was of medium height and slim.

I thought Bunty came from the poem;

Little baby bunty (or bunting)
Daddy's gone a hunting
Going to get a rabbit skin
To wrap his baby bunty in.

I knew a guy named Thomas but called Bunty. He never married and lived with his mother all his life. I though he was called Bunty he was always the baby.[/i]
