Bellshill, Bothwell, Blantyre areas

Post by mcblondie » Sun Feb 24, 2008 10:01 pm

Hi everyone,

Been a while since i last posted, but once again here i am hoping that i may jog someones memory. I'm hoping that anyone from the above areas may remember any families with the names of Paleokas, Palokas, Polokus etc... there are many spellings of the name due to the corruption of mis spelling over the years. If anyone remembers any families with any of these names could you please contact me? I'm still searching for my Lithuanian roots and hitting many brick walls due to not being able to get any info. The more info i can obtain the easier it will be for me to obtain more info from the Lithuanian Archives. As there records are not computerised everything is searched by hand not only does this take a lot of time but it has proven costly due to the limited information i have of the family or name.

Thanking you all in advance
Katie

Hi Katie,
I'm sorry to say I'm unable to help you, but I was intrigued by your problem. I thought I had a hard time with my "names", but boy oh boy, yours takes the biscuit !
A cousin of mine tried to trace her Lithuanian ancestors, but came unstuck with their surname, Raguckas. Her granda had anglicised his name from Jonas Raguckas to John Rogers.
I know this is of no help at all, but I wish you lots of luck in your search, hen.

Hi Scotsmum,

I tried the Holy Family, i called them and the Lithuanian Club in Bellshill, but they said they couldn't help with individual cases and that most people who go now are 3rd / 4th generation. I'm sure one day, I'll find a solid piece of info and that will lead to new leads. :)
