Thomas Gilfillan and Helen Torrance

Hi,

I am looking for Thomas Gilfillan b1827 in Wiston and Roberton and Helen Torrance born 1828 in Cambusnethan, they had a son called John born 1851 who died 1861 and a daughter called Mary Wilson born 1848, after John died in 1861 i have been unable to find any of them on Census or death records, i think they may have emigrated but cannot find Thomas,Helen or Mary anywhere. Can anyone help please.

Janet Gilfillan, 18, Daughter, born Wiston, Lanark, Farm Servant
Helen Torrance, 24, Daughter, born Wishaw, Lanark, Ploughman's Wife
Mary Gilfillan, 2, Grandaughter, born Wiston, Lanark
John Gilfillan, 5 Mo, Grandson, born Wiston, Lanark

Thanks for your help.

I am looking for them after 1861, i know they were in Scotland before that as John died in 1861, but after that there is nothing, it is like they dissapeared, it is only Thomas and Helen and Mary that i cannot find, all of Thomas' siblings and parents i have info for, just nothing for them.

Sorry, I thought you meant you hadn't found them on any census. Was Helen still alive on John's death cert? I don't see her in 1861, although I did find Thomas and Mary (not together).

Hi Sarah,

I have just had a look at John's death cert and it says mother deceased, i had not noticed that before, so in 1861 Thomas and Mary were still in Scotland ??

Yes,
In 1861 Thomas is a ploughman at Syde Farm, Carmichael, Lanarkshire, at the farm of the Millers.

Mary is a domestic servant in Lanark, in the house of Andrew Cunningham.

That is great Sarah, Thankyou very much, i will see if i can find deaths for them now and marriages, i just couldnt find them so wasnt sure if they had emigrated, this has helped alot, thankyou.
