Hi Everyone,

I've uploaded a marriage cert I'd like some help deciphering please.
It has a lot of information I've not seen before & don't quite understand what it means...
& before I even get this written Andrew P has sent me a link... Thank you Andrew.

In the date column of 1926 there is the date 31st December at 3 Maxwell St,
then 5 lines of I'm not sure what followed by Catherine Binnie Reid or Baillie 76 Lennox Avenue Glasgow?

I can make out most of the Bride's details because I know what they should be but am at a loss over the Groom's Parents.

The 2nd last column says something about Warrant of Sherrif, which I've not seen before on a MC & the last column I can't make out at all.

Does this mean this marriage was 'a shotgun wedding' or is there a more fascinating explanation of a Warrant of Sherrif.

I read it as:

1926 on the thirty-first day of December at 3 Maxwell Street, Govan.
By declaration in ___ ___ Murdoch Slimmon ? 3 Belmont Crescent, Glasgow and Catherine Binnie Reid or Baillie, 76 Lennox Avenue, Glasgow.

(signed) B. R. Katarya, Engineering Student, Bachelor
Age 24
Usual Residence: 2 Cluny Villas, Glasgow
Parents: Pamuabai Katarya Topan Das Katarya, Agriculturalist
Ramuabai Katarya M.S. Hugo

Isabella Stevens Baillie
(signed) I. S. Baillie, Spinster
Age: 21
76 Lennox Avenue, Glasgow
Parents: Robert Gardner Baillie, Textile Designer
Catherine Binnie Baillie, M. S. Reid (looks like Isabella's Mother acted as a witness)

Warrant of Sheriff Substitute of Lanarkshire, Dated 31st December 1926

The last column which is very unclear, says in part 1926, December 31st, at Glasgow, followed by what would be the signature of the official taking the registration. From the outline, it looks similar in shape to the D.L. Gordon, Assist. Registrar in the box below.
