im confussed

Post by claire dalton » Sun May 04, 2008 1:44 pm

Can anyone help me figure this out please

I am trying to trace my great nan Margaret Blaney i think she died in1957 age 78 in allo clarkman as i have a death record for a Margaret Blaney known as McNaughton it appears she never married my grandad. Its her birth im not sure of i can find a few births for a Margaret Blaney around the rite time. I have also looked at the census i can find a Margaret Blaney in the 1891 census age 11 living with her parents. I also have a Margaret Blaney age 22 as a border in the 1901 census and a Margaret McNaughton age 15 living with grand parents in the 1901 census. I must say im really confused to witch one im looking i would love any ideas people have. Its more than likely very simple but at the moment i feel like my brain has turned to jelly over this

Thanks Claire

Hi Claire:

SP shows death for Marg* Blaney
Additional surnames: McNaughton
Birth year = 1879
Death year = 1957

SP shows birth for Margaret Blaney 1878 and only 3 additional ones between 1875 and 1880. As SP would only be 1 credit for the 4 births, you might be able to pick the most likely based on the location.

You mention she is with her parents in 1891, but what about the 1881 census? Margaret's parents would have been Mr. McNaughton and Ms. Blaney, is that right? Have you located either/both of them with a child 1-3 years of age?

Hi Claire,
Are you saying that Margaret Blaney never married your grandfather who was a McNaughton, but was known by that name anyway? In which case, you'd be looking for a Margaret Blaney. I'd bet on the one born in Kilwinning, Ayr, daughter of John and Elizabeth in the 1881 and 1891 censuses.

All the best,
Sarah
