Born in 1930 in Cardross, how can I find my family

Post by Beckenham1 » Wed May 28, 2008 7:17 pm

My mother was born on 17 Feb 19xx in Cardross is looking to find out who her parents were. Her mother was in her thirties. My Mum was given to a family living in Larkhall, shortly after her birth and was never formally adopted. We believe that the Church (probably the Church of Scotland) arranged it. Can anyone advise on how we should go about this?

Hi Beckenham1 and Welcome to TalkingScot [scotland-flag]

The first place you might like to check is ScotlandsPeople, if you have any idea of who the birth parent(s) may have been.

As we are a genealogy site, we are more able to assist in finding the dead, than finding the living http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... on++people

We have compiled a list of sites suited to your quest, and hope that these will be of help.

I thought you might like to know I traced the origins of two adopted children in the family.

The key was in their names.

The adopting family just added their surname to their original birth names (as seen on the original birth certificate). For example if the name was Mickey Winston Mouse. I just needed to take off the Mouse to get the name. The date and location of birth were the clarifiers from that point on.

Simples.
