Hi Kay
From the info you have given, I'm not seeing any obvious signs of the people you mention on ScotlandsPeople. Can you maybe tell us where you have searched already and where your info is from? Are you working from what a family member has said or have you already found some documentation?
Do you know roughly when your grandmother was born? Do you know if your grandmother died in Scotland?

I'm maybe being dense here, but is your gr grandfather's first name Valentine, or have you given the surname first, so his first name is George? The reason I ask is that there is no sign at all of a "Valentine George", but George Valentine throws up a few hits, including a birth in 1869 at St Vigneans, Angus on SP www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Best wishes
Lesley

p.s. the bith woudl give you his parent's names, though it may be better to try to find the death or marriage first and work backwards. Have you found the family on any census?

Also on Scotlands People there is a marriage in Angus in 1887 of a George Valentine and a Margaret, so as the timing seems a possibility that one might be worth a look, though it may not be the correct marriage as we don't yet know Margaret's surname.

Hello Kay,

It looks to me that George Valentine's, wife is Margaret Duncan, born 29/June/1840, Christened the 26/July/1840, at Dunnichen, Angus, to parents, Andrew Duncan, and Christian Anderson, who were married 08/July/1831. Watten, Caithness, Scotland.

As George Valentine, and Margaret Duncan, had a son Andrew, and a daughter Christina, this looks likely to be your people.

The only way to be certain is to get the marriage certificate of George Valentine, and Margaret Duncan, 1864, Brechin, Angus, from Scotlandspeople Site, which should give the parents names of George, and Margaret.

Regards,
Jonn.

Hi Deano
It must be too early in the morning for me....

I thought the George were looking for, who married a Margaret was not born until abt 1870. Have I got the wrong end of the stick somewhere?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hello Lelsey,

I am going by Kay's, posts regarding her Grandmother, Susan Valentine, born 1879 Arbroath, also the census of 1881. 4 Hope Street, Arbroath.

The son George Valentine, born about 1869. Arbroath, who is in the 1881. census along with Susan, and her parents George Valentine, and Margaret Duncan, is most likely the person you are talking about, although Currie, has mentioned in another post that he seems to be born to parents John Valentine, and Margaret Duncan.

Regards,
Jonn.
