VERY HIGH BRICK WALL EDWARD ROBERTSON/1821 ...FATHER????

Post by robbiej » Tue Jul 01, 2008 2:41 am

I have posted before, but now am desperate !
The Cert of Death of 1900 I have for Edward Robertson B/1821 a Bottlemaker, says his parents were ??? Robertson to Margaret More....
This finding of the father of Edward is a huge brick wall.
He Edward, was born 1821, and prior to that the family seems to fit OK.
BUT finding who he THE FATHER is,???? and married to Margaret More is a problem.
It has been suggested that it could be 'Alexander Malcolm' but I am reluctant with this as prior in the family there is no second name to any of them - except with some of the women. Also Matching this A M brings up two daughters born some 28 -30 yrs later than 1821..Consequently I don't think it is a match.
Help Please ?
Previous help through forums etc have given me so much assistance, I can onky say Thank you everyone so much. However ....This is a Huge Brick Wall, and any help would be wonderful.

Hi Robbiej:

I tried wildcards for m*g mo*r, m*g* mor* and several variations of spelling and couldn't locate anything.

Without entering any parental information, Scotlandspeople only gives 1 Edward Robertson born/baptised in 1821, and a total of only 5 between 1817 -1823.

Have you looked at the summary sheet for those five and looked for the one born in Midlothian, as stated in the 1841 census for Edward the bottlemaker?

Hello Robbie

Here's a longshot, but could be worth trying to find out about if you haven't already.

1841 Census, Edward is Apprentice Bottlemaker in South Leith,
living with Robt Mason and wife Jane

1841 census in North Leith is a 52 yr old Margaret More, a Net Maker, on her own.
Five doors down (previous) is a Mason family.

Have you ever checked a death for that Margaret More, if she had the sense to live until 1855 ..... Often times even married women used their own name.
