Looking for any information on the family of John Davidson and Mary Law.
The OPR for Caerlaverock parish shows the following children:
Elizabeth 08/01/1754 Caerlaverock ( believe my ancestor)..I have the actual record from Scotlands People and it says the father John Davidson, mother Mary Law and this was in Lantonside
George 25/05/1749 Caerlaverock
John 16/03/1756 "
William 29/04/1759 "
I also think that there was a daughter Isobel, who may have married a William Ferguson in 1767, Caerlaverock.
Is anyone following any of these families. I would love to here from anyone regarding any of these families.
I could not come up with any marriages on Scotland's People for John
and Mary (Law), in fact I could not find the name "Law" in Caerlaverock, so not sure where to look now. Is this name concentrated in a certain
area?
Thanks
Ruth

Hello Ruth,
Just on the distribution of Law’s.
Caerlaverock being 9 miles South East of Dumfries in Dumfries-shire. The 1841 census might give you a bit of an idea of what name distributions were about 100 years previously. On FreeCen http://freecen.rootsweb.com/ 1841 Dumfries-shire is 100% complete. It looks like there are only 20 Law’s, not many, and 75% of those were from census place Sanquhar and I think that’s the Parish.
You could try the same thing for surrounding Counties and that might show if there are any concentrations nearby (that’s if the coverage is close to complete, see their coverage chart).
Hope this helps,
Alan
