Tartan by photo - c1880.....

Post by Abygail » Sat Jul 09, 2005 2:53 pm

I think sometimes I ask questions with impossible answers. I have a family tin plate photo c1880 of a sweet wee child all decked out to show the world their scottish heritage. My impossible question is this, is there a tartan wizz that likes the challenge of looking at a black and white 125 year old photo and be able to enlighten me on as much information possible by what is revealed to the experience viewer.
I am happy to scan said tin plate and email direct for your opinion. Plus I don't have a clue as to how to put it up here.
My great, great, grandmother came from Dunning Perthshire and her maiden name was Janet Lawson, daughter of William Lawson and Jeanette Dougall born 29/06/1832.

Hi Abygail and Welcome!

I'm about the farthest thing from a tartan expert that you can find around here but I ran a search in Google and wonder if you've checked out this website:

http://www.tartans.scotland.net/

There seems to be a wealth of information available as well as an opportunity to post a question under the Tartan Q & A section. I wonder if you might be more likely to encounter an expert there?

It would be possible to post the image to our gallery by selecting gallery from our main page directory and then selecting file upload. Of course this is once you have the tintype image scanned into your computer and saved. When choosing to upload a file you simply have to find the image file on your computer thereby establishing a path to it. All uploads are subject to Admin approval so there would likely be a delay before the gallery location would be determined and be available for inserting into a post.

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean,
Thanks for the suggestions and the directions, I'll give both a try and see what I can achieve.
