Re: Scotch or Scottish
Let's settle this once and for all (some hope

)
Current and modern usage is that Scotch is only used in reference to whisky (note spelling!), mist, and a few other "objects",- I'm sure others will remind me!
People are Scottish.
It appears to have been the case before Sir Walter Scott became involved that Scotch and Scottish were interchangable, i.e. no-one was particularly concerned if they were called Scotch or Scottish. Usage has changed since then - whether or not Sir Walter Scott played a major role or not I'm not sure, although the timeframe is correct for the usage change.

I can remember getting into trouble at school in the 50's for saying 'scotch'.
"Scotch is a drink and not a sutible word for children to use" we were told!!.
It still bothers me when I hear people on TV calling us "Scotch".

When you live in England, you have to put up with a fair bit o'ribbing, but you have to draw the line somewhere !

Never mind Sir Walter Scott's frequent usage for the nationality

just to add to the fray
a m8 of mine, started a riot with some English friends and left them speechless when they started on about the 1966 world cup,
he said in very simple terms that the Scots had a history before 1966, you lot had to win a world cup to get one
i dont think i laughed as much in all my life
