Mary Jane Hepburn.

Hi All,

Maybe someone can help me move forward with a forgotten family member, who appears to have fallen off the face of the earth. I certainly can't find her!

She's Mary Jane Hepburn, born 8 July 1856,Paisley, Renfrewshire. She was the illegitimate daughter of Rebekah Hepburn, my GG Grandmother.

Two years after her birth Rebekah married my GG Grandfather, Samuel Alexander, and on the 1861 census Mary Jane is shown as his step-daughter, and is never seen again. I can't find her on any subsequent census returns, I can't find a marraige or even a death. I can't find anything on emigration and I just can't think of anything else. I have the niggling feeling that I'm missing the obvious.

I'd love to find out what happened to her, she was only 5 on the 1861, poor wee sole.

Can anyone suggest anything? I've also tried looking for Mary Jane Alexander.

Found this in the 1871 census........not sure if they are yours, but the evidence leads there:

I knew I was missing the obvious.

Yes, these are my Alexanders, with 'Mary' resident in 1871. I don't know how I managed to miss her. I think I've got 'Mary Jane' stuck in my brain and can't see past it.

I'll go and have another look at what I have on the Alexanders incase I'm just not seeing her.
