Mysterious John McDonald

Post by darylrodger » Wed Oct 15, 2008 2:59 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to find John McDonald b. c. 1827 in Lochaber, Inverness-hire. :?
He was a wood sawyer, and he had a son born on 11th May 1855 in Tradeston, Glasgow, with Margaret Young. I know he died between 1856 & 1865 (as that's when his partner re-married) to a Stephen Gray, but try as I might I can't find his death! Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Daryl

Hi Daryl,

There are too many John M*Donald results in that timespan, even if you gamble and narrow it down to Glasgow city, with a birth around 1827 (or age not indexed). Have you found her in the 1861 census, with or without him? That should be the starting point in narrowing the timespan down further.

Looks like there was also a daughter Helen in 1857. I take it that is where your 1856 start date comes from.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your suggestion. I found his death, which was on the 2nd May 1874. Now I have to locate his parents!

Regards,

Daryl
