Hi toro and Welcome aboard!

I wonder if you know any approximate dates for your David MURPHY in Lanark?.....or if you're just hoping to meet other MURPHY researchers (of which unfortunately I'm not one :( ....)

We'd love to help you out if we can!

Best wishes in your research!

Jean

Hi toro,

Appears your family were originally from Ireland - will get the census details at one point.
ALL were as born Ireland except 7yr old John.
--
1851 census New Monkland
Bernard MURPHY 40
Jean 45
Mary 20
Sarah 19
David 16
Hannah 14
Jean 12
John 7, b Airdrie
--
And what looks like Bernard & family in 1861 - but with some age differences.
Again ALL born Ireland - even 1yr old Jean (who shd be New Monkland).

1861 census New Monkland
Bernard MURPHY 54
Jane 62
Mary 27
David 23
Catherine 23
Hannah 20
Jean 18
Jean 1
==
There's a 4yr old Mary MURPHY with Samuel (49) & Mary (54) JOHNSTON (both b Ireland) in 1861 at Old Monkland.

Thank you all for your prompt response. It is very much appreciated. Some of the dates fit in (even the one's in question). According to the US Census.

Hi again toro.....I see you're in RI....I'm a bit north of you in ME. Good to see another New Englander around here :D Since we did so well with your MURPHY family maybe you have some REID details we could work with? I have tons of connections in Ayrshire but so far I haven't found a REID in my lot but I bet someone else may have.

Best wishes
Jean

Bernard Jean (Rodgers) MURPHY David MURPHY their son

Post by toro » Mon Jul 18, 2005 10:00 pm

Going over the info I rec'd from all your prompt replies, I have now figured out the census and where some puzzling data fits in. (puzzling to me)
1851 - census New Monkland Bernard MURPHY 40
David 16 - my Great Grandfather
I belive John 7, b Airdrie died before 1861 census because my Grandfather's 1st name was John Randolph MURPHY born 1879 in USA.
1861 - census New Monkland Bernard MURPHY 54
David 23
Catherine 23 - Bernard's Daughter in Law
This woul be David and Catherine (Johnstone) living with Bernard. They were married in 1859.
Jean 1 was 2nd born daughter. Would be Bernard's granddaughter.

1861 census 1861 Old Monkland
Samuel 49
Mary 54 (Catherine's parents)
Mary MURPHY 4 David and Catherine's 1st born.
Living with Grandparents.

How would I go about obtaining a copy of the censuses?
1871 - David MURPHY was born March 23, 1871
They immigrated to USA in 1973.
Would be on 1871 census I would imagine.

thank you

Sorry I don't know how to correct last postings.
RIDGERS should be RODGERS, Jean
Scottish Roots
MURPHY Bernard DOB 1810 married
RIDGERS Jean
GrtGrtGrdfather: David MURPHY son of Bernard
Immigrated: 1873 to USA State of Pennsylvania
