Robert Davidson marr Anne Brown

Post by jamied » Mon Oct 20, 2008 12:01 pm

Hi

I am trying to trace further back from my ggggGF Robert Davidson. The only reliable info I have on him is that he married Anne Brown 11/2/1792 in Anstruther Easter. I think they had 10 children over the next 20 years, Andrew, William, Robert, Isabel, David, James, Alexander, John, Thomas and Morris (in that order!). Can anyone help with a birthdate or even death for Robert Davidson. I have no idea how old he was when he married and have really hit a brick wall with this one?

Thanks

Hi Jamie,
What is Robert's occupation according to his children's death certificates? That would be a way to make sure one was talking about the correct Robert, if one were to find a death record. I notice that their children were born in a number of different parishes in Fife. Many of those places have existing death records. For example, on the General Register Office for Scotland website I see that, among others, the following death records exist:

Anstruther Easter
1746-98
1833-46

Elie
1736-60
1783-1808
1822-54

Kilrenny
1755-82
1783-1819
1820-54

Can you make a guess where Robert and Anne may have died, on the basis of where their children are found in the censuses?

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah

On Thomas's birth certificate of 1810 Robert Davidson is listed as a Farm Servant in Kilrenny. However in 1812 Morris, their last child, was born in Elie. It would make sense that they would move around alot I suppose if he was a farm servant. Do you know how I can view the old death records of parishes online? Is there a site for this?

Thanks
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
This will answer many of your questions on pre-1855 death records:

Your best bet from Australia would be to order the films from your local LDS Family History Center. It is not expensive, and can be very interesting! Of course, since the family moved around so much, it may be a problem finding the right film :( The OPR death records are supposed to come online sooner or later, but don't hold your breath

Sarah
