Hi I found this site via ScotlandsPeople when I became very frustrated about a lost marriage
Through ScotlandsPeople I have found the images of the Statutory Births of three of my late uncles.
All in the Sangomore Parish of Durness as follows
1899 MACKAY ANDREW (Statutory Births 048/00 0012) ……………………August 4th 1899
1901 MACKAY DONALD KENNETH (Statutory Births 048/00 0004)………..March 29th 1901
1903 MACKAY HUGH (Statutory Births 048/00 0016)…………………………November 7th 1903
All the above three images have the parents stated as
Father James Mackay . Mason (Journeyman)
Mother Margaret Mackay M.S Mackay
Date and place of marriage 1898 November 4th Thurso
My frustration is that I cannot find any record or image of this particular marriage!!!
01/01/1901 (Census 1901 048/00/004/00/006) names then as husband and wife
I also have images of both parents birth registrations.
It would be great if someone can help me through this problem
Thanks to you all

Hi Britannia,
Welcome to TalkingScot.
They are there, but there is a catch. James Mackay and Maggie Mackay. I found them by using no first name and wildcard selections in the surnames: M*kay and M*kay in 1898, anywhere in Scotland. That produced 16 results, three in Thurso. Given that the groom was neither Robert or George, that left a choice of one - James and Maggie.
I had a quick peek at the certificate. Not only is it Mackay and Mackay. Both sets of parents are Mackay and Sutherland, thankfully different first names.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi AndrewP
This surely sounds like my lost marriage. Yes the parents names were Mackay and Sutherland. As yet I haven't checked it out in ScotlandsPeople but thanks for the advice on how you tracked them down.
I had never thought of using "Maggie" but now you mention that I do remember my Dad calling her by that name.
Thanks again, I wont be shy in coming back to this forum with any other questions in the future.
Cheers
