Good Morning All
Once again I come seeking more experiance than I have.
I have a Robert Buchannan Leckie born 18Mar1827, the son of William Leckie and Janet Ferguson, He would appear to have dropped his middle name and marry’s Elizabeth McGarvie 19th Jan1851 My GG G.Parents. They both die in Feb1882 in West Plean.
Now the problem is His mother’s maiden name has changed to Mailer the only consistent part is the Christian name. I have Robert on every census up until his death except 1861 where he seems to have disappeared.

Hi Bruce:
On ScotlandsPeople, there is an 1861 census record for:
Name: Le*k*, Robert
Second person name: Margaret
Sex: Both
Age: From 31 to 36
All records
All districts
Have you checked the IGI http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... search.asp ?
There is an extracted record there of the marriage of William Leckie and Margaret Ferguson 14 nov 1819 Gargunnock, Stirling confirming Margaret's maiden name and an extracted record of the christening of their daughter Mary 18 Nov 1824.
There are also records dealing with that couple's children. all born in Gargunnock which are part of a pedigree file entered by an LDS member.
Margaret 24 Sep 1820
Mary christened 28 Nov 1824
Robert Buchanan christened 18 Mar 1827
A copy of the death record of Margaret Leckie in 1882 on ScotlandsPeople, should give you her parent's names if they were known to the informant.
I hope this is of some help,
Frances

Hi Bruce,
Hope this helps.
Rae
I think, like most of us doing this family history, one gets a bit fuddled at times. Robert's mother was Margaret Ferguson. I see that Robert's son was the informant on the death certificate. If his grandmother had died some years before he perhaps didn't know what her maiden name was. I have had this happen in my searches.bleckie wrote: that his mother's maiden name suddenly becomes Mailer when he was born to William Leckie and Janet Ferguson.

Hi Rae
Thank you for your reply it was the other night when checking some of the records I have that threw me into a wobbly I thought I had everything tagged and bagged as I have this line of my family going back to the 1630s.
Probably fear on my part that I had taken a wrong turn in the mist's of time.
It's good to know that TS members are there for reassurance.
