Pryde family

Post by marypryde » Mon Dec 29, 2008 4:21 pm

I am searching for descendants of Isabella Pryde of Woodside, Largo, Fife. According to SP, she was born 1857/58 and had three illegitimate sons: James Pryde (my grandfather who emigrated to the US in 1902), Robert (killed in a mining accident in 1926 at Wemyss) and William (present at Isabella's death at Methil in 1953). I plan to visit Scotland in 2009 and hope to find any children or grandchildren of Robert or William Pryde, who would be "cousins."

Hi Mary,
Welcome to Talking Scot! [talkingscot]

Unfortunately, we can't help find living people on Talking Scot -- see http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6601

But there is nothing to keep you from looking up the marriages and children of the other sons of Isabella and tracing them down while you are in Scotland. If I were you, I'd go first to Edinburgh and spend some time researching these people and see how far you get. If there are living descendants, you should be able to find them.

Good luck!

Sarah

Hello Mary,

I thought you may be interested in the Scottish Mining Website if you haven’t seen it. http://www.scottishmining.co.uk/5.html Robert Pryde doesn’t yet seem to be included there but there was a short article in The Scotsman on Wednesday, 1st December 1926.

FIFE MINER KILLED.—An accident resulting in the death of a Kirkcaldy miner occurred at Lochhead Pit, Coaltown of Wemyss, yesterday. The victim was Robert Pryde (46), who resided in Union Street, Kirkcaldy, and he met his death through an explosion during blasting operations. He leaves a widow and family of three.

There are some Largo Pryde’s at WorldConnect but you probably know about them http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/

Good luck,
Alan
