Murray/Rennie Greenock East

Post by caljam371 » Mon Dec 29, 2008 11:13 pm

Merry Christmas to you all - hope it was a good one and that you're all set for Hogmanay!!

I have a Mary Murray born to James Murray and Janet Rennie in 1839 in Greenock.

The family are still in Greenock in 1841 (St James St - can't find it) along with Mary's wee brother James age 4months (Can't find his birth) and Mary's uncle David Rennie.

By 1851 Mary, brother James and a sister Jane/Jean (born Dalserf, Lanark) are all living in Carluke with their "Grandmother" Mary Clark -

I've got Mary's birth, marriage and death certs all naming her parents.

I can't find what happened to her parents or who her grandparents were.

Any help would REALLY be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Hi caljam
I've got Mary's birth, marriage and death certs
One question first: if Mary married after 1855, which I'm guessing she did, what church is mentioned in the second column?

Could the parents have perhaps died between 1841 - 55 or emigrated, hoping to bring the kids out later?

What is the situation in 1851?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi
Ok, so that means they should be turning up in OPRs and Kirk Session records. Good.

Ah, OK, so the parents appear to disappear between 1841 - 51.
Wonder what the state of the OPRs are for the area?

How much do you know about these Clarks? The elder lady must be (if the realtionships are to be trusted) either the mother's mother or the father's mother.

I'm guessing they did die between 1841 & 1851 but I'm not sure where to prove this (I need to go part-time  ). Emigration had also crossed my mind but I've not found any evidence yet!

I know it means speniding some money, but I'd be tempted to look at the original 1851 page just to see if all is the same as you found listed in Ancestry, and if there are any further wee clues.

All areas of Greenock are not looking too hopeful for OPR deaths:
