Yes me again..I am still at this with the Galloway family!
I have found records for Galloways that may or may not belong to Thomas.
I have found a birth record for Thomas Galloway, born 6 May, 1781, Fowlis Wester, Perth. Parents: James and Mary Maltman Galloway.
When I put James Galloway and Mary Maltman in Scotlands People search for mariage I got 0 hits...took Maltman out and I got 2. I put in Mary Maltman and spouse James Galloway..again 2 hits. I have not paid to look at them yet.
Found some info on deeds elsewhere and decided to try the name Peter Galloway. Seems a Peter and Chrisitan Thomsone married in 1754 in Alloa, Clackmannan and had about 8 children including a James in 1756.
Move ahead...Thomas marries Elisabeth Campbell in Stirling in Jan of 1807. Their first daughter , Elisabeth is born in Dec of 1807 in Alloa, Clackmannan. Did they go to where his Father and Grandparents were at or from?
Again move ahead. A son born in 1814 later has a daughter born in 1840 named Christian!!
Am I grasping at straws here trying to make a connection???
Any clues how I make the connection (if there is one) from my Thomas to the Thomas of James and Mary when records didn't say where he was born at and I can't find a death record for him? I know he died before the 1841 census...his wife, Elisabeth, was a widow by then and living with a son, his family and her youngest daughter in Hamilton. Helen was 11 in 1841.
Again...thanks for any help
Karen

Hi Karen
I think it is a good idea to lok around for possible connections from time to time - often we stumble on interesting links that way...but the problem always lies in proving them, even when you are convinced to the marrow that there is a connection.
Oh, and the other things you will need are:
1. A fair bit of persistence
2. A lot of patience!
..but with any luck it may pay off, eventually.
Best wishes
Lesley

The pool of names back then was small- there are many Jameses, many Christians etc. If it were me, I'd be putting my efforts in the Thomas you do know about. If he is the one married in Stirling (I'm not sure I've followed this correctly) then looking at the names of his children there should be clues as to the names of his parents. Next step would be to check if there are any MIs or OPR deaths for the area (maybe based on the birthplace of the last child you know of) . You can order OPR films from your nearest LDS family history centre for a small fee. I'd also ensure I'd seen all the OPR enties for that Thomas's children if you have not already; if you are lucky these sometimes contain small clues, such as the name of a hamlet or farm, perhaps a witness to a christening who may have the same surname, so possibly a sibling, that sort of thing. Again, good idea to see the actual OPR film as it gives you a much better feeling for the area, the surnames, occupations, placenames etc. if these are mentioned in the entries.Any clues how I make the connection (if there is one) from my Thomas to the Thomas of James and Mary when records didn't say where he was born at and I can't find a death record for him?
