Jane Robertson b 1849, Peterhead

Hi all

Havent been doing much researching lately, ( enjoying summer time down under).

My great grandmother is Jane Robertson born 1849 in Peterhead ( parents James Robertson 1818-1871 & Ann Smith 1817-1904. Jane married John Lawrence May in July 1867 in Inverallochy.

Recently discovered that her father James Robertson died in the Aberdeen Lunatic Asylum, after being there for 15 yrs.

I have Jane aged 2 years in Backgate Street, Peterhead, in the 1851 census, but unable to find her again until 1881 onwards in Main Street, Inverallochy.

Her father was admitted to the Asylum in 1855, suffering from Domestic Unhappiness and Homicidal, must have been very hard on his wife and children.

Can anyone help me find Jane, her mother and siblings in 1861 & 1871.

12 Main St Rathen Aberdeenshire

John May 24 Fisherman born Rathen
Jane May 21 born Peterhead
James May 2 born Fraserburgh
Jane May 6 months born Fraserburgh.

The extracted records on the online IGI stop at the end of 1874, but someone has been following up this family and made these submissions. In 1878, Rathen registration district was split into Rathen and Inverallochy districts, both within the Civil Parish of Rathen. The births recorded twice were registered in the birth registration district, and then transcribed in the domicile registration district. One theory you may wish to follow up: did Jane go home to her mother's for the births? (John could have been out on the fishing boats).

Hi

Thanks to Jean Jeannie for the 1871 census, I thought she was there but I dont have access to that census.

Now if I someone can find Jane in 1861 its possible she is in Banffshire at her mothers homeplace of Portessie, as I havent been able to find Ann Smith either.

AndrewP thanks for the list of John& Janes children, they had 14 in total. Its Jane herself thats the mystery person, where was she in the 1860's.
