Hi everyone,
I have a Martin Dempster, born Dykehead, Shotts in 1891..... parents were, Robert Dempster and Agnes Boag Barclay.
Could anyone out there find out who and when and where he married?
Kind regards, Kathy

One Way to find out if he married at all, and to whom, would be to look for his death certificate.
That should give you his wife's [or wives] names.
Got to SP and check, leaving the mother's maiden name box blank brings up 2 matches for a Martin Dempster death between 1891 and 1991 born 1889 - 1893, both seem to be in Lanarkshire.
Are either of them your Martin?
Depending on when he died, you can either download the image or send for the extract.

Hi Kathy
It sounds like you haven't checked out the actual birth entry and digitised image on ScotlandsPeople at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk .
The birth will very quickly be found, and, as is the case with Scottish birth register entries, it show's the date and place of the marriage of the parents, so that marriage register entry will very quickly be found.
This marriage record shows the names of the grandparents of Martin DEMPSTER. Instead of searching for the births of his parents, you can easily use the crosscheck search to look for the marriages of his grandparents, - they're both there, one only about a mile from where I live
Beyond that, start looking for the deaths of the greatgrandparents. At least two of the female deaths can be easily found.
And then, with censuses and OPRs you should be able to go further, not least for any post 1854 male death records.

More.............
As Wilma suggests, the death register image will let you know if he was married, and, if so, the name of his wife.
As it happens the one of the two index entries that is within the date limits for the image being on line is him, so you can then immediately find his marriage register entry.
Birth register images after 1907 aren't on line, but the index is.
Based on locations in other records, and parental given name and surname matches, I'd put a wee bet on a couple at least of these being wains of the couple .......
1932 DEMPSTER AGNES B B F SHOTTS (WESTERN DISTRICT) /LANARK 655/03 0061
1936 DEMPSTER CHARLES RADCLIF M SHOTTS (WESTERN DISTRICT) /LANARK 655/03 0031
1934 DEMPSTER JEANIE MILLER F SHOTTS (WESTERN DISTRICT) /LANARK 655/03 0035
1927 DEMPSTER JOHN ADAMS M SHOTTS (WESTERN DISTRICT) /LANARK 655/03 0090
1925 DEMPSTER ROBERT M SHOTTS (WESTERN DISTRICT) /LANARK 655/03 0113
1918 DEMPSTER SARAH BLACK F SHOTTS (WESTERN DISTRICT) /LANARK 655/03 0006

Hi Kathy
I've just sent you a PM.
But I'm concerned from recent comments in a couple of threads that you may not be notified that you have a PM from me.
If you don't, then please drop me an email on 106200.1510ATcompuserve.com . (replace the 'AT' with '@' ....)

Hi Dave,
I recieved the certificates you sent me....and find myself in awe of you at this moment!
You have actually gone a stage further than most people would have done, by sending all this information. As a result, I don't know how I can thank you for all your help.
I think, for starters, you are on my Christmas card list and when my Husband and I are in Edinburgh next time ( my Brother-in-law lives there ) I will be sure to return your kindness by way of a bottle of Malt ( Scottish, of course).
Best wishes, Kathy

Aw shucks, you'll make me blush.
Think of it as a RAGK.
You just happened to be in the right place at the right time when I needed an example like this to test drive my 'puter with its new memory !
A bottle would be very nice
