Hi Paula...........wow that was quick...................Did the John Keelan you found happen to marry a Bridgit Conley. If so he is the one I want, but Owen seems to be a bit of a mystery.....He is Johns son but can't find him.......I did look on LDS but had no luck there and can't find him on SP
I will try LDS again and see what i can come up with (if anything). Thanks Paula

The 1861 census shows one John Keelan and one Owen Keelan and one Bridget in Dundee.

In all districts, the 1851 census shows John (2), and Owen; but only 1 John and no Owen in 1841, so this may be an indication they were not living in Scotland prior to March 1851.

The 1861 census does not show Maria Drury. Maria Keelan would not be in the census list for 1861 as it was taken in April and she and Owen weren't married until November.

While Owen and Maria's marriage is recorded in SP, John and Bridget's is not, so they could have been married
- prior to 1855
- prior to coming to Scotland
- in an irregular marriage
- in 'name' only?

Hi Paula, I have found my Owen Keelan on 1861 and 1891 census............think I have reached the end of the line for now as he was born in Ireland.........does not state where though.....so don't know where to go from here.........lol. No sign of John Keelan though so he must have died before 1861 census was taken. He is stated as deceased on Owens Marriage Index in 1861.
Thanks again for your help

Thanks Frances for your help. I seem to have sorted the mystery out after having just discovered tonight that this is where the Irish connection begins for this line of my family...........lol. It appears Maria was also born in Ireland but married in Dundee. Also it seems that Owen and Maria separated at some point cos they both appear at different addresses on the census. Owen being a boarder and Maria living with her mother. Oh the scandal......lol There is still no sign of John but will try and search death index in Scotland..............if he ever lived there at all. Thanks again for your help. You guys have been so quick to respond
