Greenlees family

Post by grumpyda » Sun Apr 12, 2009 4:49 am

Hi everyone,
I am researching the GREENLEES family. Is anyone connected to this family?

My G/Grandparents were Thomas Greenlees & Mary McPhail m: 1850 in
glasgow.

My Grandparents were John Greenlees & Jean/Jane Lamberton m: 1874 in Govan.

John was a Baker and Ships Cook. They had 7 children (living).
Hoping to find a "rellie" out there somewhere.

Hi Dawn,
If you do a search on this site for Greenlees, you'll get a good number of hits. Many or most of them are from Andy, "Pandabean", one of the moderators. He has been very busy with work lately and hasn't been on the site much, but maybe he'll see your post when he gets a free moment! :D

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Dawn,

I have been absent from the forums for quite a while due to other commitments but I thought I would reply to this post as it could help both of us. I haven't found many people researching the Greenlees line as their main line, those I have found have been from my line during the mid 1800s, mainly from William Greenlees and Jane Fairnie, whom had quite a large family.

From my research I have found two main Greenlees families, one from Musselburgh/Fife area and the other from the Glasgow side. The latter I have done very little looking into.

My family decends from those in Musselburgh/Fife area. However the earliest I can get back to is a William Greenlees born around the 1770s, prior to this there were no Greenlees family in the area of Musselburgh or Fife. So I have been at a loss as to where he came from. It may be possible that there is a link but it would take a lot of work to try and prove.

If I can be any more help, let me know.

Regards,
Andy

:P Hello Andy, Great to hear from you. My Greenlees seem to have been around the Glasgow area, as far as I can see. I have found Thomas and his relations buried in two lairs at Eastern Necropolis. I am visiting the UK in August and would have liked to have gone to the Necropolis but, unfortunately, we are only in Glasgow for 1 night. Travelling on a coach tour, so have to stick to a schedule. Looks like I may have to start saving up for a second trip before I get too much older. (not much time left at my age). Regards, Dawn

Hi David. What are the names of your Greenlees and who did they marry.
Don't think they are related, but you never know. Names on my side are
Greenlees, Lamberton, Mcphail, Mcpharlane.
regards Dawn

I have a Greenlees "merrit ontae". He was Arthur Lang Greenlees b. <after 1908> in Bishopton, Renfrewshire to Robert Greenleess & Catherine Park. d. <very recently> He was a rubber merchant (Robertsons Rainwear for those of you who remember) but I know no more than that.

Thanks for editing the post Lesley - too early on a Sunday morning for the brain to be in gear!
