Welcome to TalkingScot.

A look at the IGI produces 419 James Stewarts born 1859 +/- 2 years, 92 of these in 1859. As you have a death date and age, you need to start by downloading his death certificate from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and finding his parents' names. (IGI at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... _form=true )

Then go back to the IGI and insert his parents' names. That should find you the correct birth and possibly some siblings. Then knowing the Parish or Registration District, you should be able to go back to ScotlandsPeople and find his birth certificate.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

If you have a note of the lair records numbers for Old Monkland, you could possibly request someone to go 'graveyarding' for you.

I know from past personal graveyard searches, I've discovered lots more relatives than I knew existed.

Hi Mattocks

I was looking over some of the unanswered posts and came across one you had made stating some facts about your family. Then I found this one where you had actually gotten a reply to guide you in the search for some certificates and such.

I was just wondering if you had any success? We so often give pieces of advice around here and never hear the outcomes. I'm hoping that you have found some data that you are looking for. Please don't hesitate to drop in again if you have further questions or a whole new topic :D

Best wishes
Jean

Hello Mattocks

There is a very likely looking John D. Stewart age 43 on the 1920 US Census living in Clay Township, Butler County, PA. Amongst other children he has a son Thomas age 9. All are born in PA but John lists his father as being Scotch and his mother as from England. I'll be darned if I can find the family again though on any US census :( !

Is this by chance the John D. and Thomas you mention in your post?

Best wishes
Jean

John D Stewart

Post by mattocks » Thu Nov 10, 2005 1:45 pm

Yest I believe that is correct my ancestors came from scotland. I don't know anything about John D. Stewart and Family.

apparent John D. Came over and settled and my grandmother Isobel Stewart wrote to her cousin John in America to ask if she could come to bring her Family to America. Isobel's husband John (Jock) Mattocks came over first on the Cameronia in 1923 through Ellis Island and then Isobel with their son Frederick on the Franconia in 1923 through Boston. They went and lived with the Stewarts in Butler, PA John D. and son Thomas W. stewart.
Any information on them would be greatly apppreciated. thank you
:D
