McNeills of Amod, Southend, Argyll

Post by clare2320 » Fri Aug 07, 2009 11:05 pm

Does anyone trace their ancestry back to the McNeill family who were tenant farmers at Amod in southend parish? the tenancy started with Lachlan McNeill in 1776, and remained in the family for several generations. His father, Malcolm, came from Keramenach, nearby in Strone Glen.

This ancestry is a tangled knot indeed - it would good to find someone else researching the same line

Hi Clare

I have McNeils in Southend, they are linked into my Langs through Rosina McNeil Campbell born 11/12/1863 in Southend.

She is the daughter of Dugald Campbell and Janet/Jessie McNeill, born 3/3 1842 in Southend.

She is the daughter of Duncan McNeil and Catherine McPherson who i have marrying in Southend on 31/7/1834 and have them in the 1841 Census as farmers in Amod, Southend.

Any connection?

Yes, absolutely. I am descended from Archibald McNeill, who was the brother of duncan's grandfather Lachlan, who was the first tenant of Amod. I know my grandfather was in contact with Duncan McNeill's family. I'd be interested to compare notes.

Hi David,
I've got back a few generations, with the help if an old family tree, and a recent contact I've made in Southend. I'm happy to share what information I do have - if you send me your email I'll give you access to my tree on ancestry. I see you're in glasgow - thats where my father (a McNeil) was born, likewise his father and grandfather.
regards

Hi, Clare my grandfathers sister, Agnes Cairns, married William Young Mackie McNeil in Glasgow in 1883. The family moved to Tarbolton, Ayrshire. in the 90s where Wm and Agnes died abt 1940. William's father was Daniel and I believe they were from Rothesay. Do they appear in your list of McNeils?

Hi,

I know this an old post, but I just found it via a Google search.

I'm descended from the McNeills of Amod through Archibald McNeill who moved to Kilsyth in the late 1700's.
I've got some sketchy information on his ancestry, but I'd be delighted to exchange what I have with others.

Scott.

Hello,
Are you by any chance Scott Williamson? If so, we were in touch a while back. I don't think we ever pursued it though so I'd be interested to exchange what we have, whether you are the same person or not! My email is clare.grant2ATntlworld.com. I can give you access to the McNeil tree I have on an ancestry, I'd also be interested to know more about Colonial Iron works.regards
