John,
I was thinking of first names of relatives and the villages where they might have lived. The 1841 census on Ancestry has a number of McKillops in Argyllshire who were born in the 1770's, but Laggan is shown as a parish and most of the entries go by village.
Also, is there something in particular that you want to know about John Roy McKillop? It would help us help you if we knew more about what you are looking for and what you already know.

Carol,
Sorry I did not explain better.
Laggan is not in Argyllshire it is further north.
I am looking for any details on his birth and death also of brothers, sisters or parents.
I have most of the names down the family line to present day but I am missing details of births deaths etc.

Hi John
I think you will need to provide us with a little more info so we know which John it is that you are interested in.
Do you have his parents names? If not, where have you found his birth?
Do you have his wife's name? (date and place of marriage?)
Can you provide us with some of his childrens names?
Without a few details to pin the man down we could spend a lot of time and effort chasing several wrong families and duplicating areas you have already researched. We are all volunteers here so our time is often very limited by work, family and other commitments!
We also need to know where you have looked - e.g. has your research been done on IGI, Scotlands People or New Register House, from visiting the area, or have you inherited a family tree from a relative , that kind of thing...
Have you copies of any birth, marriage or death documents for the family? The more infformation you can give us, the more likely we will be able to help.
Best wishes
Lesley

The 1841 census has just one McKillop in Laggan at Muckaul but several spelt MacKillop within the Laggan parish. I wonder if this might be the John you are referring to...
Name: John MacKillop
Age: 70
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1771
Gender: Male
Where born: Inverness, Scotland
Civil parish: Laggan
County: Inverness
Address: Drummin
Parish Number: 104
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Archibald MacKillop 35
John MacKillop 70
Isabel Dingwall 15
Donald MacDonald 25
John MacMillan 20
Searching further in this geographical area there is this blurb taken from an article by Alan MacPherson http://www.sonasmor.net/AGM3.html You may have already found this.
Besides the common case where other clans were introduced to the community by the assumption of matrilocal residence, there is also some evidence that extra-parochial wives of leading men often brought kinsmen with them for whom provision had to be made. Donald Macpherson, for instance, mentions the Maclntoshes (Tòisich a' Bhràighe), the Dubh-shuilich Stewarts, and the Irish Boyles and Burkes (Na Burcaich) in the Braes of Lochaber as having joined the Clann Raghnaill in virtue of marriages between their kinswomen and chiefs of the Clann Raghnaill (Macpherson 1879 : 368-75). The Laggan Register records what is possibly a late instance of this at a somewhat lower level of society, comparable perhaps to the circumstances that brought some of the MacGregors to Laggan, namely the arrival of the MacKillops, a minor clann of the Clann Raghnaill of Lochaber.
Just prior to 1796 William Macpherson in Muckcoul, probably a member of the former wadsetter family of Muckcoul, married Ann MacKillop. It would then appear that she was able to introduce menfolk of her clan into Muckcoul where men and women of this name are recorded as resident between 18 3 3 and 18 5 4, and whence they spread into other farms in Laggan. In 1828 Angus MacKillop in Gaskmore married one of the MacGregors in Balgown, and in 1833 Alexander MacKillop in Muckcoul married one of the Kennedies in Balgown; as a consequence of either of which marriages a John MacKillop appeared in Balgown in 1848. Others, probably shepherds, were living in Catlaig (Catlodge), Crathie Croy and Drumgask, and on Lochlagganside during the 1840s and 1850s.
Best wishes

Re: Laggan, Scotland - McKillop
I have drawn a blank
in my search for details of Johns birth and records of any parents or siblings in the records of Laggan.
He is detailed in the 1841 Census, stating he was born in Inverness Shire but no other records can be found.
Maybe his parents were from another area, Spean Bridge may be a possibility.
Any one with a step for a hint ?

Re: Laggan, Scotland - McKillop
Hi John
As requested above:
Do you have his wife's name? (date and place of marriage?)
Can you provide us with his children's names?
Do you have any information at all about his life? Where was he by 1851? Where/when did he die?
Where did you originally find his name? Was it on a birth, marriage or death document in Scotland?
What did he do for a living?
It can make it far more difficult and time consuming for all us to try find out more about someone, and try to help you if we are given no other details at all. Please tell us anything else you know about John. Is he a direct ancester of yours, or are you researching a sibiling of your main line?
Best wishes
