King Family, Barra, Aberdeenshire

Post by liz hutchison » Sat Sep 05, 2009 2:03 pm

My Ancesters are the King Family from Barra, Aberdeenshire. First recorded in 1247 also had lands of Birness and Dudwick in Buchan. During the 1400 and 1500 century there were 4 Williams living at Barra 2 which were married at Cullen Castle {Findlater Castle} so has anyone got a link to any Web pages for this family of Kings. Or any info on them, please.Liz Hutchison :D :D

Hi Liz
For most of us the research trail tends to peter out around the early 1700s or late 1600s if we are lucky, so you are very fortunate to have information from further back. Local archives may hold more information, but it will depend how many King familes there were in the area - if there are a few families it may be difficult to establish which one is which as the information from the 1400s and 1500s is bound to be sparse and quite limited if indeed further info exists.

Have you tried a seach in Google or Google books?
If they were wealthy and landowners then you are probably in with a better chance in archives, and they may be menioned in books too.

Best wishes
Lesley
