Hi mullardoch

Where have you looked already, so we don't repeat your efforts.

By maine island, B.C., are you referring to Vancouver Island?

Thanks,
Frances

Good morning!

The spelling on anything that comes from Ancestry.com are transcriptions and therefore subject to question! The only way to check would be to view the original census on ScotlandsPeople.

On the later census records, the spelling was MacFarlane and Certhy was Christy. Earvin became Ewen. Also, I may have found the family in 1841 and on that census the surname was MacFarlin!

Good hunting,

Hugh,

Saanichton is a town on the Saanich Peninsula, British Columbia. Mayne Island and Galiano Island are near Vancover Island. You can Google for information on all three.

Do you have any other information on the Hugh MacFarlane who went to British Columbia? Who were his parents? Was he married? When did he go to Canada?

There are so many Hugh MacFarlanes out there that any more clues you may have would help!

Hi again,

Here's a link for the Saanich Archives. It has a photo collection which is searchable and has a few MacFarlanes though not a Hugh. The archives also has area records, oral history and family histories.

If you are looking for information on Hugh's life in Saanich or his obituary, these might be the people to contact.
