Susan Ogilvie

Post by Susie Q » Mon Nov 23, 2009 12:16 pm

Hi All,
This is a VERY long shot, but here goes.
Susan was my maternal g- grannie. I'm hoping that someone looking at this will have a connection to her, and more importantly...a photograph of her !
She was born in Dalziel, 28th May, 1888 to George Ogilvie and Eliza Jane Simpson.
She married Andrew Sanaghan on 4th Jan., 1907 at the RC Church, Motherwell.
She died on the 30th April, 1920 at the County Hospital,Motherwell.
Talking Scot has never let me down, yet ! So, fingers crossed.

Hi Cath
Are you a member of Genes Reunited? Maybe you could get access to it through a friend if not? There appears to be a member called Adrienne on there with a Susan Ogilvie born Dalziel in 1888 - could be the same Susan. Also there is another member with a Susan born that year possibly in Lanarkshire too, so another possible.

I've often found making contact via GR has been a good way of finding photos

Best wishes
Lesley

It might be worth chasing down your g granny's siblings as well. I almost had some luck when my g-granny's sisters wedding photos appeared. But even though she signed as a witness on their cert, she wasn't pictured. Just the twin sister. But it could be worth a try!
Wish you success, those old pictures are gold!

I had a "outer limits" experience with Genes & photos.I was visiting my Mum & she was throwing out some stuff from my old bedroom.I had a rake through & came across some stuff-old school reports, jotters & my teenage angst poems.
From one of the books came a torn photo of a eldery lady & gentleman.Looked to be in twenties or thirties attire.I had no idea who they were & did not recognise the name(Richmond) on the back. The lady looked like my Granny though & as some of the stuff may have come from when we cleared her house I thought no more about it.
At some point that same week-may have been the same day even.
I checked my e-mails & there was a GR one.Anyway this person was checking to see if we were related & with permission to view his tree.On looking there was the self-same photo on his tree & two taken from a different angle but in the same place in the back garden of my Great-Granny's house in Old Kilpatrick. This couple were his Grandparents & the lady my Granny's Aunt.

WOW, that's really spooky. I haven't had any luck yet, but I'm still looking.

Hi Anne,
I've only "done" my Granda John, and not really looked at his siblings, who included Charles. I was curious though that you couldn't find his birth, so I looked for him in the 1911 census. I couldn't find any of that Sanaghan family.Andrew & Susan had a son, Andrew, born in July of that year. He died on 11th December at 244, Airbles Road, Motherwell. They must have been living somewhere else at the time of the census. In 1907 they were at 58, Wellington Street, and in 1908 they'd moved to 68, Wellington Street, where Eliza Jane was born. I'll keep looking, and let you know what I find.

Aye yours
Cath aka Susie

Hi Anne,
I've searched the Sanaghans on ScotlandsPeople, and the only Charles who fits the criteria is one born in Bellshill in 1919, GROS 625/03 0407.
You can order a copy of his birth cert. from them. Hope this is of some help.
