Just questions for the moment.

Did Margaret marry and what was her mother's maiden name?

Regards,
Annette

Maiden name was Lyon, Davidina was illigitimate don't know who father was. Don't know if she ever married after that as i can't find any further record of her.

There is a marriage for Davidina Lyon and Hugh Clyne in 1932 in Wick, Caithness available on SP. If this is your granmother, the certificate should also tell if Margaret Lyon was alive or deceased at the time of the wedding. This can help you narrow things down a bit.

Good advice from Carol but was Margaret illegitimate too? It was her mother's maiden name I was wondering about.

Got Marriage cert for Hugh and Davidina, just says that mother was Margaret and she was a domestic servant but I know she wasn't at the wedding as Davidina was brought up by an aunt.
No, Margaret wasn't illigitimate her mothers maiden name was Benge.

The name on Davidina's marriage entry suggests Margaret hadn't married (as far as they were aware) by the time Davidina married Hugh.

A look at SP shows only one death of what appears to be an unmarried Margaret Lyon but the year of birth is given as 1885. I tried searching for one with a mother's maiden name of Benge/Beanze/Beange (the variations on the birth of her children) but came up with nothing.

The only way to check if she died here is by visiting a Family History centre at Scotland or have you already tried that?

Annette

I'd take a punt on the one with the 1885 birth-especially if there was an estrangement & no close relatives to register the death it is possible that the wrong birth date was given-it only takes six credits.
Researching:SCOTT,Taylor,Young,VEITCH LINLEY,MIDLOTHIAN
WADDELL,ROSS,TORRANCE,GOVAN/DALMUIR/Clackmanannshire
CARR/LEITCH-Scotland,Ireland(County Donegal)
LINLEY/VEITCH-SASK.Canada
ALSO BROWN,MCKIMMIE,MCDOWALL,FRASER.

Thanks nelmit,
What year of death did you find for the Margaret Lyon born 1885 cos as joette sez, sounds possible birth date could be wrong.

This lady died at Glasgow age 93 in 1978 so you can't view it at SP. The biggest probelm I have with it being her is, she has a middle name of Burns.

It will be a while before I can get to Park Circus but I will be happy to have a look when I do - unless anybody else is going to a Family History Centre soon and wouldn't mind having a look.

Annette
