Was Robert the master Miller working at Folkerton Mill in Lesmahagow who had quite a tribe of children with his wife Grace Gall?

In that case, he lived a long life and appears to have died in Lesmahagow in 1891. Have you downloaded his death certificate from Scotland's People to see if the informant knew his parents' names?

I see there is a Jane who is of an age to be his mother.
Jane (widow of a miller) is living with her daughter and son in law in 1861 and there is a death that matches in 1867 at Lesmahagow.

Can I chip in my two bits?

First off the DC does give parents names. James Thomson (a grain miller) and Jane Reid. There is a will for your Robert (you may already know this) on SP.... THOMSON ROBERT 07/09/1891 FARMER AT FOLKERTON MILL, PARISH OF LESMAHAGOW, D. AT FOLKERTON MILL 21/07/1891 TESTATE LANARK SHERIFF COURT SC38/42/3. Not sure what it might contain but might be worth spending the £5 since its got 7 pages.

If I were doing this family I'd be trying to find a connection between the Hugh Thomson b abt 1776 who was a miller at Craighead in 1841 and who died leaving a will in 1846. While Hugh is not your Robert's father with the same parish and same occupation and same surname makes me think he could have been an uncle. His will is indexed as: THOMSON HUGH 13/01/1847 MILLER AT CRAIGHEAD MILL, PARISH OF LESMAHAGOW, CO LANARK, FATHER OF JAMES THOMSON I GLASGOW SHERIFF COURT INVENTORIES SC36/48/32

Sounds like the wills could be very interesting reading. I'd also go for them if it were my family.

Looks like there is no direct link to the Thomas Thomson born abt. 1776 & Martha Thomson that pearlite mentioned, but could be an uncle and aunt.
