I am attempting to find the lineage of one of 5th great grandmothers, Mary Sinclair. We know that she married Robert Sands at Arbroath on 1/5/1760 and delivered my 4th great grandmother, Mary Sands at Arbroath on 9/5/1765.
IGI shows 3 possible births for Mary Sinclair. 1735 Montrose, 1736 Carmyllie and 1743 Panbride. Before I invest in a search for a birth certificate or a marriage certificate, I thought I would ask the question here. Maybe someone is also related or has easy access to the relevent OPRs.

Hello John,
Just a warning as to the state of the Parochial Records in the Parish of Arbroath. A survey was carried out in the 1840’s and this was the result.
“ARBROATH.—"The records consist of the kirk-session minutes, whose earliest date is 1669; and of the records of births and baptisms, and of marriage contracts and marriages, which commence in 1659. They are, in general, in a good state of preservation. The entries of marriages are defective in 1659, 1661, 1696, 1697, 1698, and 1700; and of births and baptisms in 1660, 1661, 1696, 1697, 1698, 1699, and 1700; and the volume or volumes containing both, from 1735 to 1748 inclusive, have been lost. There is no record of the proceedings of the kirk-session from 1684 to 1732, nor from 1735 to 1748."
From “Scottish Parochial Registers: Memoranda of the State of the Parochial Registers of Scotland” By William Barclay Turnbull, 1849. (Page 77)

The GROS list matches for marriages but I’m not so sure about births. http://www.scotlandspeoplehub.gov.uk/pd ... 0to322.pdf
All the best,

Thanks Alan. Maybe that's why I've been unsuccessful so far. I'll try Scotlandspeople in a few days.
