Anne Rodger Bruce

Post by smiddykilry » Sat May 01, 2010 6:22 pm

Hello Folks
I have not posted for quite a while but could do with a shove in the right direction with this lady, she was born Oct 1883 in Fowlis Easter (near Dundee) to Helen Bruce domestic servant. Helen had a twin sister Annie Rodger Bruce. I have Helen and Annie's details no problem there but Anne goes awal after 1901 age 17 in Liff (near Dundee) I have checked SP and been to the SP Center yesterday but drawn a blank. ](*,) There is at least one other A R Bruce born to a brother of Helen and Annie but no Anne with a birth 1883 with a marriage or death record. Now there are some passenger list entries that could be her but nothing that I could point to and say "that's her" Hopefully when the 1911 census comes on line I'll get a pointer but until then :)

Hi Smid
Have you got any further with this one?

You mention that "she was born Oct 1883 in Fowlis Easter (near Dundee) to Helen Bruce domestic servant"; but later say that you have not found a birth for her...if so, where did you find the October 1883 reference? There seems to be a birth on SP for an Anne Rodger Bruce in 1883 Fowlis Easter. Is this her? (no credits, cannae check.... ) I think I'm maybe reading it wrongly - did you mean you have the birth, but there is no corresponding marriage or death for someone with that name born in that year?

Also, just to clarify, am I right in thinking there are three Annie Rs - one is Helen's sister, another is Helen's child (the one you have lost track of) and the other is Helen's brother's child?

What was the one you are looking for aged 17 doing in 1901? At home? Who is she living with? Occupation?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley
Thanks for the reply, Yes I have her birth 1883 (from SP ) but no marriage or death that I have found so far. There are 3 Annie/Anne Rodger Bruce's you have that right and I have now checked most of the passenger lists but no joy so ](*,) She was a Domestic Servant in 1901 age 17 am fairly sure that it's her ( right age and birth place) Her mother Helen Bruce was a Domestic Servant before her Marriage to David Scott in 1890 and she (Anne) is with the family in the 1891 census.

Have you tried searching for her as Scott? There are 2 marriages of an Ann* Bruce Scott at SP. No Rodger in their names though.

Just a thought.

Annette

Hi
YesI had a look for a marriage of Ann* Scott but ran out of time as I think there are about 400 or so, the Ann* Bruce Scott marriages on SP one has a first name Mary and the other in 1942 would make her almost 60
Thanks for the reply anyway as I said I need a shove now and again :?

PS just got back from a few days in Appin "Stunning"

Hi
Just to say that I found Anne's death in 1898 while looking for other family members, the 1911 census showed that the parents had 12 children of whom 7 were still living so that prompted me to further searching of birth and death records and up popped Anne's death age 14, so the 1901 census record was a red herring.

Thanks again to all who replied to my original post
