ARGH !!!!!!! help advice tips anything please

Post by tj2 » Tue May 11, 2010 4:06 pm

I trying to find infomation on my granda Maxwell McConville,(?b14 sept 1886) (died 18th nov 1955 in sunderland) and any family members.I have traced who i belive is him to the 1901 cencus living at Coatbridge.but cant seem to find him before this anywere. One of my main problems being no family member seem to know anything about him before he met my great nana.I have what i belive to be his army registration forms but as there is a marriage on them for him (to a Bridget O'Donnell , 25th June 1912 at 39 Upper Castle, Stirling, they were living at 22 Lower Castle Stirling) older family members keep telling me it not him as they were always told he never married not even to my nana (i do no this part to be true).I no i am missing something somewere but just dont no what .Thank you lynn xx ](*,)

Hi Welcome to Talking Scot.

Where does the 1901 census say that Maxwell is born?

There seems to be a Maxwell McConville born in 1886 in Lanarkshire on Scotlands People - have you looked at him?

It's an unusual name, but there could be several spelling variations on his surname.

2 results show up for a marriage: 1 before 1920 [the Stirling one you have]
the other after 1930 [a son perhaps?].

It could be that he was married before but his 1st wife was still living so he couldn't marry again
[but never made that fact known].

Here he is in 1891 transcribed as McConnell still at Buchanan Street, Old Monkalnd -

Lizzie McConnell 37
Lizzie McConnell 17
Patrick McConnell 13
Maggie McConnell 9
Joseph McConnell 7
Maxwell McConnell 4
Annie McConnell 2
Edward Duffy 38
Terence Duffy 18

His parents appear to be John McConville and Elizabeth Lundy. A look at his birth entry (there is one at Bothwell in 1886 as Wilma said) at Scotlands People should confirm this.

Have you looked at the marriage entry of the marriage of Maxwell McConville at Stirling? This should show his parents names so you can confirm if it's the same Maxwell or not.

Like Wilma I've also known people to not marry because they already have a spouse living. It looks like Bridget O'Donnell/McConville died in 1943 at Stirlingshire.

Annette

You need to register at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and buy credits to view the records.

It costs £6 for 30 credits and with the info you have this should let you view 5 records.

Hopefully looking at his birth entry will confirm he was born 14th September 1886 like your g grandfather.

Annette
