Dunlops and Kitcheners

Post by agnieszka » Wed Aug 04, 2010 8:57 pm

I'm looking for info on Marjory Kitchener who married Robert Dunlop in Johnstone in Dec. 1907. It would appear that Marjory was not born in Scotland, nor was her father James Kitchener. Her mother was Christine McGrorty whose family was from Johnstone.
Marjory and Robert brought up their family in Fauldhouse,West Lothian.
I would be grateful for any info or ideas

Hi agnieszka
..and welcome to Talking Scot :D

Have you any idea where she might have been in 1901? If in Scotland for the census that year, that would give some indication where she was born, if that is the sort of information you are looking for.

Best wishes
Lesley

The 1907 marriage gives Marjory's age as 21.

There's no obvious record in England.

You may just have to wait for the Scottish 1911 census to be released in early April next year to find out where she was born !

mb

Later .............

From 1976 onwards the Scottish death indexes show the maiden surname of the mother.

In this case there is a match as follows -

Death details removed as they are well past the TS cut-off date of 1959. [LesleyB]

agnieszka - PM me for the removed death index details

The index details that were originally posted here are in the public domain at http://www.ScotlandPeople.gov.uk

1912 DUNLOP ELIZABETH LOCHR F SHOTTS (EASTERN DISTRICT) /LANARK 655/02 0007

mb

Later still .............

These are possible DUNLOP births in Fauldhouse, -
[all births removed as all are after TS cut-off date of 1909. Any details after cut off dates may be sent via PM - please do not list these on the open forum. LesleyB]

Later yet addition.........

The birth index records listed are freely and openly available and in the public domain at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk !!

There is a marriage indexed at SP of a James Kitchen to a Catherine McGroarty at Greenock in 1876. Only problem with this one is he doesn't have a Marjory with him in 1891 but a Margt born Greenock. I had a search at SP and I couldn't find a birth.

Here they are in 1891 at Greenock -

Jas Kitchen 35
Katie Kitchen 34
Katie Kitchen 14
Mary Kitchen 10
Ann J Kitchen 8
Margt Kitchen 5 ?
Jas Kitchen 2

The thing I like about this one is that James appears to have a sister and aunt called Marjory.

Does it give her mother's name as Christine on her marriage entry?

Annette

Hi Annette

The 1908 marriage register entry for Marjory KITCHENER shows her parents as James KITCHENER and Catherine KITCHENER MS McGRORTY.

Thanks mb - looks like that may be the right family.

agnieszka - maybe a look at the original 1891 census might confirm (or not) that Margt is perhaps Marjory.

Annette

Even later, later ........

James KITCHEN and Catherine McGROARTY married in 1879 in Greenock as found by Nelmit.

Marjory KITCHEN was born to these parents in 1885.

In the 1901 census, it looks like Marjory was enumerated as 'Maggie', parents James and Katie ..............

Could someone explain to me, please, how to send a PM to someone who has only posted once.

I was under the impression, obviously wrong, that a new member had to post at least 3 times before they could send and receive PMs ............
