Spare a thought for those of us having to research MACLEODS in the Isle of Lewis.
Sorting out some of my downloaded certificates this evening, I came across the following mariage certificate
In 1871 in the Parish of Stornaway
Malcolm MACLEOD married Catherine MACLEOD
Grooms parents; John MACLEOD and Catherine MACLEOD m.s MACLEOD
Bride's parents: Donald MACLEOD and Janet MACLEOD m.s. MACLEOD
And the witnesses? You've guessed it.
John MACLEOD and Malcolm MACLEOD.

It's too long ago, - ca. 15 years, - and I didn't note down the details, but I clearly recall a marriage register from one of the fishing villages on the Moray coast where a handful of names tend to dominate.
This late 1800's marriage record included the widow's entry as Mary WATT, formerly WATT, MS WATT; father John WATT; mother Jane WATT MS WATT (it might have been WEST instead of WATT, but I promise that this was the entry!). Guess the surname of the groom ?
