hi from a newbie
William Millar fathered a natural son with jean Lang in 27 mar 1843 that was raised by her parents John and Jean Lang from the age of 8yrs on, Kilbarchin,,, William millar Sr died prior to 1871 when his son jr married. ALl of the family that i can find was born in Kilbarchin, even the langs and all were weavers of some sort.
How can i find sr??? Would anyone have access to the Mitchel records to see of the boy who was raised by the langs was on the poor role? I would appreciate any help because I don 't know where to go from here, I am stuck...Thankyou gumpy

Hi Debbie
Welcome to TalkingScot
I note that you have posted a similar question with the Kilbarchan East Church although you did not give as many details to help with that enquiry ( I am involved with Kilbarchan genealogy enquiries and run the local family history society)
The church website can only answer burial record enquiries drawn from the lair records.
There are four Lang burial lairs. A22, A31, A 94 and A111.
A22 - 1/2/1872 Sarah Lang was buried in the lair belonging to 'heirs of William Galbreath'
A31 - 23/6/1879 James Lang in the 'heirs of George Lang'
A94 - Wm Lang; clothier; Bridge of Weir.
A111 - Robert Lang; smith; Bridge of Weir
16/10/1872 Joseph Lang
28/10/1874 Margaret Lang
Lairs A22 and A31 were probably purchased late 1790's or very early 1800's but no actual date was given for the burial of Wm Lang although from the numbering it was most likely between 1810 and 1810.
A111 Robert Lang most probably died around 1810-1812
If your Langs were weavers they do not appear in the East Church Lair records and I have no records for the other (West Church) in the village.
Prior to 1788 only the Established church (West church) existed and the OPR records for births and marriages are very patchy. I have included only the Lang records which survive. There may be some clues in the names there. You appear to have the birth entry for Alexander Millar already.
Hope you can extract something useful from all this.

There is a William Mill*r born around 1817 who married Janet Young at Kilbarchan in 1850 who seems a likely candidate but how to prove he's the correct one is going to be difficult. Perhaps a look at his death entry might mention Jane Lang but I wouldn't be too hopeful.
He appears to have died before 1871 as Janet is on her own with the children then, but I'm not finding one at Kilbarchan between 1861 - 1871. Only a look at the original 1871 census will show if Janet was a widow.
Here he is in 1841 from FREECEN living at the same street as Jane Lang -

Re: where did william Millar go
Hi all,
Had a look at the 1871 census and Janet is shown as a widow. Not seeing a death for anyone who fits William between 1861 and 1871 either. There is one family tree on Ancestry with this couple, but right now Ancestry must be doing maintenence because it keeps telling me that the family trees aren't available, try again later which I will do.

Hi Carole
I am so grateful for all of the info that you have provided. . it is going to take me alot of time to digest and document it for posterity, and i look forward to seeing that last file when you can access it .
With alot of help from many sources along the way,my search has turned into a life long quest. The aid, time and understanding that YOU have given me goes extends way beyond my ability to relay to you. I have been at this since I was a 16 yr old girl sitting with my nanny and gumpy at the kitchen table listening and writing. It has been my goal and hope to satisy my own curosity and in doing so, leave a footprint for future millars to follow should they choose.
One day, they will realise how far the family has come from our roots and should they choose, find our history waiting for them. Certainly they will find themselves farther ahead than that 16 yr old girl was when she started.

Re: where did william Millar go
Hi again,
Actually I only added on a little bit to the end of the posts by Russell and Annette, but you're welcome anyway!
I finally got to look at the family trees on Ancestry and there are two concerning William Millar. The Sanderson/Kennedy Family Tree has a William Millar born about 1820 in Renfrewshire and married to a Janet Millar with a daughter Susan born about 1837. Susan marries James Baille in 1856 and they have six children. There is no further information on William and Janet or any siblings for Susan. Since the marriage was in 1856, the marriage certificate for Susan should show her mother's maiden name.
The Salties Family Tree has William Millar born 21 Jul 1816 in Hamilton with Archiblald Millar and Janet Yiulle as parents and siblings John, James, Archibald, Andrew, Margaret, Alexander, and Robert.
This tree doesn't show a spouse or children for William and since I think Hamilton is in Lanarkshire may not be relevant to your search.
