Oyne, Aberdeenshire.....

Post by Ted » Sun Aug 28, 2005 2:43 pm

Hi Everyone

Looking for any information on William Allan b15/7/1895 at Jute St Aberdeen. Married Helen Taylor in 1926 - she died 1927 at Clatt. After 1929 William married Mary Middleton (no further details) - he died 27/2/1951 at Boghead Cottage, Torries (This is shown as a farm on the O/S map of the area), Oyne, Aberdeenshire. His death was registered by his brother-in-law Charles Middleton, Cromallie Cottage, Pitcaple. William's occupation given as a gardener.

William is thought to have at least 1 son by Mary - no further details. Any scrap of info would be much appreciated.

Hi Ted

From reading your post I'm not certain which information you want the most but here goes.....

First I assume you have accessed the SP site where you obtained the birth and marriage details?

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

If you didn't then there is more data from these that will help you....specifically the parents names from the Marriage cert and whether they were living or deceased when William and Helen married. Using these names you can then search for their marriage and couple that with the census records and death records likely follow William's line backward quite easily.

Now for William's marriage to Mary. That is not available online yet as it occured newer than 1928. But......since you state that you're from Edinburgh you are very lucky in that you can visit the New Register House and obtain those records in person! Also you would be able to search for a possible child or children to William and Mary. Once you have William and Mary's marriage information you will know her parents names and then can trace her line backward too. Knowing she had a brother named Charles will help confirm her family in the census records as well.

Having never had the opportunity to visit Scotland or New Register House yet myself I can't give you any helpful advice......but know there surely are plenty of folk around here who could....

Not much help but hey...I tried!!!

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean

Many thanks for your help - I have William's line way back to 1700's - now hoping to go forward from his death to try for a live relative. I have the certs for Helen's birth / marriage / death. I'll have to visit GRO for hard copy info on the marriage to Mary- finding the time is the hard bit !! Have checked out MI for graveyard in Oyne - no luck there so I'll have to trudge around a bit in the area for more info.

Regards

Ted
