Williamson et al North East Scotland

Post by penfold » Fri Apr 22, 2011 2:31 pm

Some of my North East Scotland people before 1900 are: Williamson, Dalziel, Craighead, Gear, Marshall, Leith, Duncan, Marnoch, Bain, Fraser
Locations: Forres and Alves before 1820, Aberdeen City from 1600s, Peterhead and Tingwall, Shetland in the 1700s.

Grandfather Alexander Dalziel Williamson b1894, Aberdeen worked on a Taylor farm near Peterculter, for several years before coming to Canada in 1912 and settling in Hamilton, Ontario.
His mother was Margaret Gear Dalziel b 1855, Peterhead.

Hello penfold and [TS_welcome]
Were your Frasers in Forres, by any chance? I have a connection to a William Fraser who was a soldier in India in the early 19th century (he died before 1833.) His daughter, Charlotte, born in India and married in India in 1844 to James Peter Giles of Aberdeen, ended up dying in Forres in 1846. I know they were on leave in Scotland at that time supposedly for her husband's health, but can't figure out why they were in Forres when she died, except the possibility that she had relatives there.
Any chance you have a William in your line who went out to India?
So many Frasers, as you know... but I thought I would ask on the off-chance any of this rings a bell!

All the best,
Sarah

My Fraser is an Ann b abt 1710 probably in Morayshire, Alves or area, who married James Williamson who was born in Alves in 1708. A assume they lived in Alves as the son James was born there in 1742. I have not others sorry.

Oh, well, no harm in asking! I wasn't sure which family of yours was in Forres.

All the best,
Sarah

Hello Penfold,

Are these Williamsons in your Family Tree?

Jean Williamson, Born 3rd June, 1759, in Dyke, Morayshire. Her father Alexander Williamson was a Farmer in May Town, Caithness. He was born 28th March 1731 in Watten, Caithness.

Alexander's father was William Williamson.

Jean Williamson was married in Edinburgh in 1779 then moved to Crossford in Dunfermline. The" OPR Marriages" shows her father as being deceased.

Regards,

JohnnyG
