Hugh and Mary Gibson
I cant find the death certs for Hugh and Mary gibson/king. they marrie din 1867 in cambusnethan (if thats how you spell it) ans they had i think all of there children in Dalzeil. they are there in the 1871,1881,1891 census' and they are still alive in 1895 for their sons marriage in blantyre. in think they moved to blantyre just before the 1871 census like in 1869 or 1870 as the youngest is 2 and is born in Dalzeil. i dont no hughs fathers name because on the marriage the writing starts disappear at the front of his name but it looks like james and his mother is mary hannah something and desceased. marys father is robert king and he is desceasd too and her mother is easther harrison.

Re: Hugh and Mary Gibson
Hi Gary,
Mary Gibson's death certificate is easy to find on ScotlandsPeople. If you search the deaths for Mary Gibson, other surname King 1895 onwards, there are 5 results. Three of them are in the 1960s so unlikely to be her, as she would be over 100 by then. The other two are both in Glasgow - one in Dennistoun and one in Gorbals. More than the average amount of deaths in Glasgow take place in Dennistoun as that's where the Royal Infirmary was (is?). Go have a look there and you will find the death of Mary, widow of Hugh, usual residence in Blantyre. There is also an RCE entry there for you to view for more details concerning her cause of death.
On Mary's death certificate, she is listed as a widow. So given that you know Hugh was alive in 1895, and dead before Mary you have a very short time frame to look in for his death. If you search within these years you should get 10 results for the whole of Scotland. Eight of these are children, so leaving only 2 adults to choose from. One in Blantyre and one in Dennistoun. The Dennistoun one is younger than you are looking for, so the Blantyre one is the one to make first choice. On looking at that certificate, his son was the informant to the register, but got names mixed up a bit - that's not uncommon on a death certificate.
All the best,
AndrewP

Re: Hugh and Mary Gibson
Hi Gary,
I am reasonably sure that the 1897 death is the right Hugh. Look at son Hugh's signature, as informant on both of these documents. See what you think.
Similarly I think these (pre-1875) children listed on the IGI are all of the one family:
So the mystery is that Mary seems to be listed by two different maiden surnames, King or Dunn on different documents; and may or may not be illegitimate. You are going to have to unravel Mary's origins to work that out.
All the best,
AndrewP

Re: Hugh and Mary Gibson
On census records Mary states she was born at Kilmarnock.
I thought the name Mary gave for her mother when she married was unusual enough to investigate and I found this-
EASTHER HARRISON
Spouse: ALEXANDER BROWN
Family
Marriage:
23 APR 1856 Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland
In 1841 there is a Esther Harrison born 1831 Ireland living at Kilmarnock.
Unfortunately I cannot find any children born to this couple or any other info.
I'm not suggesting this is definitely Mary's mother but wondered if it would be worth trying to trace this Esther.
Regards,
Annette

Re: Hugh and Mary Gibson
thanks i no in,i think a couple she is down as kilmarnock but in others she is in ireland and in 1881 i think it gives a county begining with F i couldnt really make the county out i wouldnt think that would be right though becuse if she was born after 1853 she would be 16 or under to get married but i think mary king was married at 19 meaning she was born in c1848
