Just a quick favour. Have come across a birth entry in IGI records. Lillie Bell born Midlothian 1875. Parents Thomas Bell and Elizabeth Buchanan. I was in the General Records Office in Edinburgh just the other day doing some related research and did not come across this birth. Maybe I just missed it, Who knows. As it is going to be a while before I am there again would someone possibly be able to check out further details so I can corroborate (or otherwise) this birth entry as part of the Bell family I am investigating. 'My 'Thomas bell was a quarryman. All help much appreciated.

Is the IGI reference a submission or an extract?

If it is an extract, you should be able to search for birth on the ScotlandsPeople web site. All of have to pay for credits for ScotlandsPeople. If it is a submission, it may be incorrect.

There are 4 entries on the IGI for the birth of Lillie Bell in 1875. One is given as Edinburgh, the others as Midlothian with no parish given. They are all submitted entries, so by definition are not taken directly from the records.

Often submitted records are estimated backwards from some other record. It could be that Lillie was not the formal name that she was registered under.

There is a marriage entry for the parents in Eastwood.
