a little allison help

Post by garydevine1995 » Mon Jun 27, 2011 12:36 am

I was wondering if someone could help me with three things, one: can someone find a marriage cert for a margaret ,possibly mcfarlane, allison to a man named sawers between 1901 - 1911 in Glasgow she was born in 1877 and my gran thinks she only had one child, she didn't die in Scotland, she had an affair with an Argentinian and moved to Argentina but her plans didn't work out so she moved to Canada so don't no when she died. Two: a marriage and death cert for a Andrew allison born in 1881 he would have been married if he was after 1911 probably in Glasgow and if you come across any if his children give me there names too, and three, a death cert for a peter allison born in 1889, he was married to Annie griffiths in 1913 I think and if you come across any of their children give me their names too

Hi Gary,

Have you looked on ScotlandsPeople for the Scottish ones in your list? It's your way to go.

All the best,

AndrewP

I have looked on scotlands people and waisted alot of money cause there are quite a few for each allison and I need to be very accurate this time. Each child is from Walter allison and Margaret mcfarlane if I haven't mentioned it before.

Gary - any children's births followng the above marriages will be past the cut off date on SP, so also past the date that we would mention any people's names on TS as well - some of the children may still be alive.

To search with any real hope of finding children to either of these couples and to see the full details of any children to ensure they have the correct parents you will need to go to ScotlandsPeople Centre or the new centre in the Mitchell Library. Researching forwards in time e.g. finding children to a couple is often more difficult than working backwards as one normally does when researching family history, though some surnames can make it more difficult or a bit easier. After 1920-something (I can never remember the precise year!) The mother's maiden name is also listed in the index which makes it easier to spot children to a couple from a long list.

Best wishes
Lesley
