Where is John

Post by garydevine1995 » Thu Jul 21, 2011 10:24 pm

Hi, there might be a few other comments on another post involving this question but i want to start a new one.

I cant find My GG Grandfather John Devine, and his wife Elizabeth Crooks. on the other post i couldnt find his children thomas catherine mary and william but to my suprise i have just found the children living with there uncle on their mothers side, james daisley. i was actually looking for johns step sister maria mcguire/devine but i couldnt find her either i only find i think her daughter maria who is 16. she is living with a family with the second name curly. i have no idea who they are but also another two siblings of maria, the 16 year old, are staying with the curlys as well. Anyway, i have no idea where john and his wife would be so could you help me he was born in 1859 and she was born in 1858. he died in 1914 and she died in 1919.

Hi Gary

This is where I think you should now be doing some of the searching yourself.
In previous posts the way to do this through census returns and other records has been explained to you. If you follow the advice given previously you should track back through all the different records for the family to get your answers.
All of us offer help while we are still looking for our own ancestors and paying subscriptions for various sources of information out of our own pockets/bank accounts. You have had lots of help but still seem to expect others to do the searching for you.
I think it is time for you to re-read all the various answers and guidance you have been given and take the plunge.

Happy hunting

Hi Gary

There is a burial record for Elizabeth Devine in Bent Cemetery, Hamilton, corresponding to the dates you cite.

Devine, Elizabeth, age 62, date of burial 10 February 1919, 18 Burnside Lane, Hamilton

Could this be your Elizabeth?

Cheers,

Gary

Without being rude I think that you should pay some attention to what Russell has said. People have been very helpful but they will undoubtedly get fed up if you keep on asking for information and don't seem to be searching hard enough yourself. If you want to find ancestors you have to concentrate on following the advice you have been given and use all of your own resources to look for them. No-one objects to someone asking for help if they have tried everything and got stuck but I'm afraid you are just not making enough effort yourself. Apart from anything you won't learn if you don't invest some time and energy.

Hi Gary,
I applaud you for being interested in genealogy at such a young age (wish I'd started when I was your age).

Part of the fun of genealogy is accepting the hints you receive from TS members and then doing the research and finding your ancestors by yourself. There is a sense of accomplishment when you finally break through a brick wall all by yourself, instead of being handed the information.

Good luck in your searching.

I cannot but agree with Russell and AnneM.

Sadly, I stopped responding to requests for help from garydevine1995 two or three months ago as he was rather obviously taking advantage of the willingness of many TS members to assist.

Specifically there were a number of repeat questions where the information required had previously been supplied, sometimes on more than one occasion, and/or where very clear guidelines and hints had been given given as to how and where to locate the information; by me and others.

Most often I will not provide the final solution to a problem. Instead, based on detailed research in the records, I will point someone in the correct direction, but without providing all the details that my research has produced.

I've no problem helping with breaking down brick walls, but consider that it's reasonable to expect that all the info and guidance given will not just be ignored, and that the poster removes the final bricks on their own.

OK, sometimes there may be a continuing problem for whatever reason, leading to a justifiable follow up query, but I don't see it as the function of TS to carry out all the required research for a poster.

Ok then I will stop asking for help then I don't need a fourth person telling me that I have been given hints and guidence on previous posts I am currently looking over all my posts so I can help myself. I have taken onboard what Russell, Anne and Ina have said so I will do it, if it becomes a big problem then I will just stop asking for help and stop using this website as I don't want other member being annoyed at me.

Gary.

If anyone has anything to say I would rather you private mailed me instead.
