Steven - I am also researching Dougans. They originated in County Leitrim in Ireland and moved to Glasgow around 1850-1860.

here is what I have to date in rough detail.

I am Steven Gerard Dougan, born in Parkhead Glasgow, married Ursula Knuepfer 12.04.1976. I am a Surveyor living and working in germany
My Father was John Thomas Dougan, born 14.03.1933 in Shettleston Glasgow, married Elizabeth Deeprose 06.06.1953, died 12.09.1993 the first non-miner(Painter).
His Father was John Thomas Dougan, born 14.12.1905 married Rosina Tracy 27.10.1927, died 28.04.1982; Coalminer.
His Father was John Thomas Dougan, born 03.06.1886 married Sarah Finnie 21.12.1903 d.o.d. unknown; Coalminer.
His Father was John Dougan, born 15.06.1865(not sure where i got this date of birth), married Mary Ward 31.12.1884, d.o.d. unknown; Coalminer.(Mary Ward remarried a Thomas Gribbons and died in 1929)
His Father was James Dougan, d.o.b. unknown, married Mary Evers or Evens date unkown, d.o.d. unknown; Stoker on a Steamship.
All Coalminers were probably in Old Monklands employed, as that is where they lived, oldest known adress was that of John and Mary, and Birthplace of the first John Thomas as being 29 Porch Row, Cuillhill Heatheryknowe. My Father and Grandfather lived in Shettleston.
In the 1881 Census there was a John Dougan married to Sarah Jane living at 27 Porch Row, but I have no indication to who they were.
Were James Dougan and his son John Dougan Irish?

my Grandfather had a Brother named James, I could probably find out more brothers and sisters from my aunt Rose, her being the only living relation from this side of our family.

Are we related in some way?
Do we have similar Irish roots?
Lots of questions come to mind.

I am desparately trying to track my Great Grandad Patrick Duggan and his Dad John Duggan but seriously losing the will to live. I keep putting it down and going back to it but still no luck. It doesn't help that the name changes at every opportunity so if there is anyone out there that can help I would be so grateful.

1901 Census -Patrick Dugon - Single -Coatbridge - 23yo - born England
He is a boarder and Tube Work Labourer.
1905 Marriage Patrick Duggan 28yo Tube Work Labourer Father John Duggan Furnace Keeper (deceased). Mother Ann Duggan m.s McAvoy (deceased).
1911 Census - Patrick Dougan - Old Monklands Poorhouse - 32yo.?? married. Tube Work Labourer. Born England.
1913 Death - Patrick Dougan -Old Monklands Poorhouse - 35yo. Pauper formerly Tube Work Labourer. Father shown as John Dougan, Blast Furnace labourer (deceased) Mother Ann Dougan m.s. McAvoy(deceased)

1891 - Death - John Duggan - 50yo, Lamont Model Lodging, Main St, Coatbridge. Widower of Ann McAvoy. No Parents listed. If John dies in 1891 Patrick is only 14, so where can he be. There is a Patrick living with Coogans but I don't believe that to be him.
